Top Hits of 1984

In 1984, two new women artists became wildly popular.  Cyndi Lauper sang the hits “Girls Just Want to Have Fun”, “Time After Time”, “She Bop”, “All Through The Night”, and won the Best New Act in the Grammy Awards.  Madonna had 2 hit titles “Lucky Star” and “Borderline”.   The soundtrack to Prince’s film Purple Rain was a top seller and the first 2 singles from it, “When Doves Cry” and “Let’s Go Crazy” were top hits.  The soundtrack to the film Footloose was also a big hit and included the hit songs “Let’s Hear It For the Boy” by Deniece Williams and “Footloose” by Kenny Loggins.   Culture Club, the British band led by Boy George, had their biggest hit in “Karma Chameleon”, and its follow-up “Miss Me Blind” also made the top hits list.  1984 will be remembered as the year that Michael Jackson’s Thriller became the biggest-selling record ever, people are gonna call “Ghostbusters”, and Marvin Gaye was shot dead by his father.
