  • Ever After – Drew Barrymore is a Cinderella for feminists in this romantic comedy set in the 16th century thereabouts, although the characters speak modern.
  • Notting Hill – Hugh Grant, a London bookshop owner, falls in love with a world-famous movie star who is trying to be incognito.  Great chemistry between Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts.
  • Four Weddings and A Funeral – Hugh Grant’s best performance as a man who cannot sustain a relationship while his friends are getting married.  This movie is full of wit and charm.
  • My Best Friend’s Wedding – Julia Roberts and Dermot Mulroney are best friends who vow that they’ll marry each other if they are still single by age 28.  Cameron Diaz appears as Dermot’s fiancée, Julia must sabotage her best friend’s wedding.  Smart and funny, and I sympathize with Julia!
  • French Kiss – Meg Ryan spies on boyfriend who went to Paris, only to meet a French rogue Kevin Kline.  Many slapstick and funny situations. The pair of stars are of course famous for their comedic talents and their charms.
  • Sleepless in Seattle – Meg Ryan, who is about to marry, hears a widower in a call-in radio show (Tom Hanks).  She is so moved by how much Tom Hanks loved his departed wife that she becomes obsessed with him.  Meg believes that Tom is her destiny.  It’s a bitter-sweet romantic comedy.
  • My Man Godfrey – This is dated, but is a romantic comedy classic about an heiress (Carole Lombard) who picks up a bum from the street (William Powell) and hired him as a butler, learns life lessons from him, then falls in love.
  • Sweet Home Alabama – A country girl who made good as a New York fashion designer (Reese Witherspoon) is engaged to the Mayor’s son and comes home to Alabama to seek closure to her deep secret.  Enjoyable enough, but the ending’s predictability gets in the way.
  • The Wedding Singer – Adam Sandler is a wedding singer and a sweet guy whose fiancée stood him up at the altar.  He is consoled by a waitress (Drew Barrymore) who is about to marry a jerk  Quite forgettable, but saved by the charms of Sandler and Barrymore.
