... according to my research, based on WORLDWIDE sales. thriller_jackson

  1. 1. Thriller, Michael Jackson 1982 -   a trademark Michael Jackson pop-dance album famous for "Billie Jean" (Jackson's best-ever performance, it is said), "Beat It" (with hard-rock solo by guitarist Eddie Van Halen) and of course, "Thriller," where horror-star Vincent Price raps in a scary voice.  Weird, but with Michael Jackson, it goes with the territory.
  2. Dark Side of the Moon, Pink Floyd, 1973 - Pink Floyd's best work, discovered by generation after generation because it was ahead of its time.  Haunting, experimental, moody rock music that are slow to mid-tempo, every song is a masterpiece!  The album explores the nature of the human experience, with themes such as birth, time, greed, conflict, travel, mental illness, and death.
  3. Their Greatest Hits, The Eagles 1971-1975 - The Eagles before Hotel California harmoniously combines country, folk and rock to come up with the California Sound. Popular hits include "Desperado", "Best of My Love", and "One of These Nights".
  4. The Bodyguard, Soundtrack, 1992 - Whitney Houston's "I will Always Love You" is of course amazing and unforgettable.  Made her a superstar!
  5. Rumours, Fleetwood Mac, 1977 - the group's homage to love, Southern California-style made when the members' relationships are in turmoil.  Great songs include the popular "Don't Stop".
  6. Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart Club Band, The Beatles, 1967 - I agree with the critics, this is the best band ever's best album (well maybe, Abbey Road comes close).  Every song has a different style that, combined, rises to the level of art:  With A Little Help From My Friends,  Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds, Getting Better, Fixing A Hole, She's Leaving Home, Being For The Benefit Of Mr. Kite!, Within You Without You,  When I'm Sixty-Four, Lovely Rita, Good Morning Good Morning,  Day In The Life, and of course: Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart Club Band.  You can listen to them again and again and not get tired.
  7. Led Zeppelin IV, Led Zeppelin, 1971 - the album that turned Led Zep into Giants of Rock.   Songs feature the  manic vocals of "Black Dog" the thundering backbeat and jagged guitar lines of "Four Sticks," and the bone-crushing, bluesy riff-slinging of "When the Levee Breaks".  Of course, the masterpiece is "Stairway to Heaven", with it's melancholy folk-rock strain that climaxes in a volley of hard rock guitar lines and Plant's wailing vocals over the top.
  8. Greatest Hits, Elton John, 1974 - features many great pop songs from Sir John: "Your Song", "Daniel", "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road", "Rocket Man", "Candle In The Wind", and the rhythmic "Crocodile Rock".
  9. Come on Over, Shania Twain, 1997 - catchy country crossed with pop music and then some from this Canadian superstar.  The biggest hit is "You're Still The One".  From This Moment On is an inspirational song that is becoming a favourite wedding song.
  10. Jagged Little Pill, Alanis Morissette, 1995 - the biggest album from the rock music's queen of hurt - gritty, honest, and ultimately empowering.
