Although we strove to come up with 20 top songs, critics seem to disagree on what the best ones are, and their listings are all over the place. However, there are 15 songs that most critics agree are the best of the year. 2007 is described by a critic to be a year of sentimental electro, minimalist hip-hop (designed to sell ringtones), and lushly instrumentalized indie rock (designed to sell mp3 players). The popularity of mp3 among music fans forced sound engineers to intentionally degrade sound quality of music (because details are lost in a compressed music format anyway), making many of them just loud.
