Top Albums 2012

2012 is the year in music when the South Korean PSY became a global phenomenon, thanks to his highly viral video on YouTube. Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe” also became a YouTube sensation, became the song of summer 2012, and became popular as a dating punchline.   Adele’s album 21 which was released in 2011, still ruled the charts all year, although she was on maternity leave and didn’t release an album in 2012.  Taylor Swift album “Red” scored the biggest sales week in a decade.  Gotye, Drake, One Direction, Rihanna, Mumford and others were also at the top of the year-end charts.  Some of the year’s most lauded albums were eccentric introspective performances, such as the albums of Frank Ocean, Fiona Apple, Grimes or Kendrick Lamar.
