In 2015, music album sales were a disappointment, but the measure of an album’s success continue to shift to include downloads, streaming through Spotify, Pandora, Google Music, Apple Music and other music streaming services, as well as free mixtapes (in the case of Drake) and singles.  Music sales were dominated by two albums: Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp A Butterfly and 25, Adele’s record-breaking comeback album.   But the year’s biggest songs, such as those by Drake, Rihanna, Kanye and Skepta were sold as singles, and not on albums.

2015 also saw Justin Bieber having the coolest singles, Taylor Swift changing the music business, teen pop as maturing, and rap coming down a bit in popularity.

In pop culture, 2015 will be remembered as the year the former Olympian came out as transgender Caitlyn Jenner, David Letterman said goodbye to the Late Show, the new Star Wars became a record-breaking blockbuster, and Donald Trump dominated the political as well as entertainment news.
